Clayface, the DC horror film from Warner Bros., opened at No. 1 in Brazil on the weakest cinema weekend of the year. Brazilian cinemas took R$18.4m ($3.7m) from about 747,000 admissions between Thursday 22 and Sunday 25 October, according to Rentrak figures reported by the business daily Valor Econômico.
Key facts
- Market: R$18.4m ($3.7m) and 747,000 admissions, down 28.7% and 32.8% on the previous weekend
- First weekend below 1m admissions since March, and the lowest of 2026 on both counts
- Clayface (Warner Bros.): 166,700 admissions and R$3.88m ($780,000), or 185,300 admissions and R$4.23m ($850,000) including Wednesday’s paid previews
- Minha Melhor Amiga (Paris Filmes): 5.93m admissions and R$107.1m ($21.5m) after eight weeks
Valor attributed the fall to the national vote held that Sunday. Working back from the percentages, the previous four-day weekend came to roughly R$25.8m ($5.2m) and 1.1m admissions.
The top five
Clayface, which stars Tom Rhys Harries as the Batman villain, replaced Verity at the top after three weekends. The Colleen Hoover adaptation from Sony fell 56% to 104,200 admissions and R$2.66m, taking it to 2.15m admissions and R$51.0m ($10.2m). Street Fighter from Paramount dropped 58% in its second weekend, to 102,900 admissions, for a running total of 452,800 and R$10.0m.
A live concert film, BTS World Tour ‘Arirang’ in Buenos Aires, from Trafalgar and Cinecolor, came fourth on admissions with 63,100. It ranked third on takings, at R$2.48m ($500,000), because event-cinema tickets cost more: the average was close to R$39, against about R$23 for Clayface.
In the US the same weekend, Clayface opened top with $24m, as we reported on Monday. The film site ArrobaNerd, which published the full Rentrak table, compared the Brazilian opening with this summer’s studio horror releases, which drew between 157,000 and 190,000 admissions.
Worldwide, Clayface opened with about $43m, according to ArrobaNerd’s summary of the weekend’s international figures. Its biggest markets outside the US were the UK ($2.6m), Mexico ($1.4m), Australia ($1.3m) and France ($1.2m), which puts Brazil, at about $850,000 with previews, below the top four.
A local comedy keeps going

Minha Melhor Amiga, Susana Garcia’s comedy starring Ingrid Guimarães and Mônica Martelli, had the smallest fall in the top ten, down 50% to 62,400 admissions and R$1.47m. It is now close to 6m admissions in total. A week earlier it passed Walter Salles’s Oscar winner I’m Still Here (Ainda Estou Aqui), which sold 5.8m tickets in 2024 and 2025, to become the most-watched Brazilian film since the pandemic, O Globo reported, using Filme B data.
It also has the biggest audience for a Brazilian production since Minha Mãe É uma Peça 3, which sold 11.6m tickets in 2019. Paris Filmes is the distributor.
Further down the chart
Two more new releases made the top ten. Daniel e a Fornalha Ardente from Heaven Content sold 44,200 tickets for sixth place. Sony’s drama O Outro Lado das Redes, which had already screened at the São Paulo International Film Festival, opened ninth with 16,800. Universal’s Other Mommy (Outra Mamãe) fell 66% to 38,800 admissions, for 478,600 and R$10.1m ($2.0m) after three weekends. Disney’s Se Eu Fosse Você 3, the return of the body-swap comedy franchise, fell 65% in its third weekend to 20,100 admissions, for 288,600 in total.
The weak weekend comes in a year that started well. Brazilian box office passed R$1bn by the end of May, the best result for that period since the pandemic, according to Ancine data reported by CNN Brasil. More charts are in our box office section, and our latest report from China covers Resident Evil’s third weekend there.
Dollar figures use the rate of about R$4.99 to the dollar at Friday’s close.
