- Writer-director: Caleb Phillips (feature debut); producers Thomas Bond and Sara Seligman (Broken Pig), Joe Bandelli (Marylous’ Boys)

The film and the US deal
Phillips wrote and directed Imposters. Variety’s synopsis: after a couple’s infant son is taken, the mother finds a way to bring him back, while her husband comes to doubt that the child she returns with is theirs. Rothe, Barnett and Vazquez head the cast. Phillips’s earlier short Other Side of the Box took prizes at SXSW and BiFan.
Brainstorm, founded in 1995, is described by Variety as an independent distributor that pairs theatrical releases with campaigns aimed at defined audiences. Recent titles named in the same report include Rothe-starrer Affection, Melanie Lynskey legal drama Pike River and Marisa Tomei romcom You’re Dating a Narcissist.
International map
Vortex has Canada. Umbrella Entertainment has Australia and New Zealand. European buyers are Tiberius (Germany), VOD Factory (France), A Contracorriente Films (Spain), Vendetta Filmes (Portugal), Plaion (Italy) and PremiereTV (Benelux). Red Castle Group has the CIS; Media4Fun has Poland. Particular Crowd took Latin America, Falcon Films the Middle East and North Africa, and BookMyShow India. Penny Black holds airline rights. Blue Finch will distribute in the UK and Ireland itself.
Bond and Seligman produced the film as Broken Pig’s first feature, with Bandelli also producing. Since Austin the title has played Beyond Fest, Chicago, BiFan, Edinburgh and Sitges, Variety says.
Variety places the US pact inside a wider Blue Finch sales push on the title before AFM. The same company report notes Blue Finch’s international line-up also includes Tribeca horror selection Recluse, Toronto Midnight Madness pick Kick On, and George MacKay starrer Mission, which has BBC Film backing. Those titles are context for the sales shop’s AFM slate, not further Imposters buyers.
The AFM-facing slate sits beside other recent FilmBunch distribution and theatrical pieces, including Netflix’s worldwide buy on Joel Coen’s Jack of Spades, Cinemark’s Q3 revenue rise and the Australia box-office A$1bn crossing. More deal coverage is under Distribution & Streaming.
Our reading
For sales agents the package is a Midnighter debut with a recognisable lead and most major territories spoken for before AFM opens. The next evidence is Brainstorm’s dated US release week and whether Blue Finch’s UK and Ireland self-release lands before or after that theatrical opening.
