MEXICO CITY – La venganza del Charro Negro (“The Revenge of the Black Charro”), the eighth animated feature in Ánima Estudios’ Las Leyendas series, held No. 1 in Mexico over the Day of the Dead holiday weekend with MXN52.64m ($2.8m) and 766,129 admissions from Thursday 29 October to Sunday 1 November. The figures are Canacine’s, as reported by Milenio; Canacine’s public taquilla page still displayed the prior week’s chart numbers under a 29 October–1 November header when checked on 3 November. Videocine releases the film.

Key facts

  • Weekend 29 October–1 November: MXN52,636,600 ($2.8m) and 766,129 admissions (Canacine via Milenio)
  • Cumulative: MXN170,313,917 ($9.0m) and 2,660,371 admissions
  • Opening weekend 22–25 October: MXN93.65m ($5.0m) and 1.45 million admissions (Canacine)
  • Second-best Mexican opening on published lists after Eugenio Derbez’s Instructions Not Included (No se aceptan devoluciones, 2013); director Marvick Núñez; Ánima Estudios / Videocine

Dollar figures use the European Central Bank cross rate for Friday 30 October 2026, the last trading day of the weekend period (about MXN18.91 per USD).

Still ahead of the holiday field

The BTS live-viewing World Tour ‘Arirang’ in Sao Paulo, released by Trafalgar Releasing, was second with MXN25,877,014 ($1.4m) and 100,677 admissions, Milenio’s Canacine tally shows – MXN26.76m behind the Las Leyendas film. LAIKA’s Wildwood (Wildwood: El bosque salvaje), released by Imagem Films, opened in third with MXN13,909,901 ($740,000) and 169,859 admissions, more tickets than BTS despite a lower gross. Warner Bros.’ Clayface was fourth with MXN13,646,264 ($720,000) and 160,738 admissions, lifting its cumulative to MXN46,860,039 ($2.5m). The Las Leyendas film’s weekend take was more than double the BTS event’s.

Kinótico, publishing earlier on 2 November, put the film’s Friday–Sunday slice at MXN34.29m and a running total above MXN151m from about 2.4 million admissions, and said Canacine already ranks the title as the second-biggest Mexican opening on record. FilmBunch is using Milenio’s fuller Thursday–Sunday Canacine set for the holiday weekend and will revise if Canacine refreshes its public chart.

Franchise scale after eight features

La venganza del Charro Negro follows Leo San Juan and his friends as they face the Charro Negro again. Núñez directs for Ánima Estudios; Videocine handles Mexican theatrical. The 2018 predecessor, Legend Quest: The Legend of the Black Charro (La leyenda del Charro Negro), took MXN100.8m from 2.41 million admissions over its entire run, Videocine has said. In two weekends the sequel is already past that lifetime peso total and past 2.6 million tickets.

The opening weekend had been the second-biggest Mexican debut on published trade lists, behind Instructions Not Included and its MXN149.6m four-day start in 2013. Day of the Dead holiday play on 1 and 2 November was built into the second-weekend frame; midweek and third-weekend figures will show how far the holiday lift carries.

Paramount’s Heart of the Beast (El Corazón de la Bestia) slipped to eighth on the holiday chart with MXN3,573,837 ($190,000) and 44,994 admissions, though its cumulative MXN171,085,808 ($9.0m) still sits just above the Las Leyendas film’s running total. Street Fighter was seventh with MXN4,049,119 ($214,000) and 57,627 admissions, taking its cumulative to MXN59,594,119 ($3.2m). On the same Canacine set, a local animated sequel outran both a Hollywood comic-book holdover and a live K-pop event on a Day of the Dead frame that usually favours family titles.

FilmBunch’s opening-weekend report put the four-day debut at MXN93.65m and 1.45 million tickets. North American exhibition context this week includes Cinemark’s third-quarter results, while Clayface’s Mexican hold follows its US opening weekend battle with You Can See Everything.

Our reading

Through two weekends the film has MXN170.3m and 2.66 million admissions on Canacine’s figures via Milenio, already past the 2018 La leyenda del Charro Negro lifetime of MXN100.8m and 2.41 million tickets. The holiday four-day take was about 56% of the opening four-day peso gross. Canacine’s public chart had not refreshed to the same numbers when checked on 3 November; FilmBunch will update if the association posts a revised weekly table.
