Isabelle Allanche has joined French independent group mk2 as deputy managing director in charge of development, French trades reported in early November, with Boxoffice Pro detailing the brief on 4 November after Stratégies on 2 November and Écran Total and Le Film français on 3 November. She sits with managing director Elisha Karmitz and Nathanaël Karmitz, président du Directoire, in a transverse role across the group’s activities.

Key facts

  • Role: deputy managing director (directrice générale adjointe) for development at mk2
  • Reports into group leadership with Elisha Karmitz (directeur général) and Nathanaël Karmitz (président du Directoire)
  • Brief: accelerate diversification, find new growth lines, and open activities, partnerships and revenue across mk2 brands and assets
  • Background: 12 years at Google (Ads and Maps), including YouTube Ads France director from July 2024; earlier commercial, marketing and partnerships work at Canal+ Régie, Televista and TF1 Publicité
  • Education (per Stratégies): Edhec Business School and Université Paris-Dauphine

What the brief covers

mk2 frames the hire as a development post that cuts across exhibition, distribution, production and the group’s other brands rather than a single division. Boxoffice Pro quotes the company mission as accelerating diversification, identifying new growth relays and building new activities, partnerships and revenue sources “at the scale of the group,” using mk2’s brands, know-how and assets. No equity stake, contract length or reporting-line chart beyond the Directoire pairing was published with the announcement.

The appointment lands as French indie groups keep looking for non-theatrical and adjacency revenue while protecting theatrical identity. mk2 remains one of the clearer integrated French independents: cinemas, distribution, production and cultural brands under one roof. The hire is a senior commercial and digital hire into that stack, not a programming or acquisitions appointment.

Path from TV ads to Google and YouTube

Stratégies places Allanche’s early television career at Canal+ Régie, Televista and TF1 Publicité before a 12-year run in Google’s Ads and Maps teams. The same report says she became director of YouTube Ads France in July 2024. Boxoffice Pro summarises the Google chapter as covering YouTube advertising in France, monetisation strategy and digital transformation work with large groups, and notes commercial, marketing and partnerships experience inside Canal+ and TF1. Neither outlet published a start date at mk2 beyond the early-November nomination coverage.

What Elisha Karmitz and Allanche said

Elisha Karmitz said mk2 is “entering a new phase, with numerous diversification opportunities around our crafts, our brands and our audiences,” and that Allanche’s experience of “media, business models and sector transformations” should help the group “identify and build new growth relays, while remaining faithful to the identity and independence of mk2,” per Boxoffice Pro. Allanche said she was joining a group whose “singularity” and “strong link with its audiences” she admires, and that in a period of shifting uses and technologies that identity is “more than ever a strength,” the same report quotes.

Our reading

For exhibitors and distributors watching French independents, the signal is diversification capacity hired at Directoire level, not a slate or circuit change. The next evidence is which partnership, brand extension or revenue line mk2 announces with Allanche attached, and whether the group keeps theatrical identity language while publishing non-theatrical numbers.
