Korean fantasy The Remarried Empress has posted the strongest local-original launch Disney+ and Hulu have recorded worldwide, measured on viewing across the three days after its 3 November bow, Variety and Deadline reported on 6 November from Disney’s figures. It also ranks first among Korean title premieres across more than 50 territories, among them the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, Chile, France, Spain, Germany, Australia and New Zealand. Absolute viewership totals were not disclosed.
Key facts
- Record: strongest local-original launch on Disney+ and Hulu worldwide (three-day window from 3 November); first among Korean premieres in 50-plus territories
- Cast: Shin Mina as Empress Navier; Ju Jihoon as Emperor Sovieshu; Lee Jongsuk as Crown Prince Heinrey; Lee Seyoung as Rashta
- Creative: directed by Cho Suwon; adapted by Yeoh Geena and Hyun Choongyeol from the Naver Webtoon
- Schedule: first four episodes live; two new episodes each Wednesday from 11 November through the finale on 25 November, exclusive to Disney+ and Hulu
Early drop and build-up

Disney+ moved the premiere forward by a day from the planned 4 November start as a thank-you to fans, the company said in its UK press note and as restated by both trades. Busan International Film Festival preview screenings in October sold out, and a payoff trailer cleared 13 million views across YouTube and social platforms inside 48 hours. The Naver Webtoon source material has drawn close to three billion views since it first appeared.
Shin Mina (Karma, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha) leads as Navier opposite Ju Jihoon (Light Shop, The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call), Lee Jongsuk (Big Mouth) and Lee Seyoung (The Red Sleeve, The Crowned Clown). Cho Suwon (Still 17, Pinocchio) directs. For Korean streamer originals, the fair comparison is other Disney+ local launches, not Netflix’s global Korean slate. Disney’s own ranking is the only public yardstick on offer, and it is framed as a local-original premiere record, not a global hours tally.
The plot follows Empress Navier and Emperor Sovieshu of the Eastern Empire as their marriage fractures when Sovieshu pursues Rashta, an escaped slave. Navier agrees to the emperor’s terms on condition that she may remarry Heinrey, crown prince of the rival Western Kingdom. Outside the United States, Hulu operates as an entertainment banner inside Disney+; in the US, bundle subscribers can reach Hulu titles inside the Disney+ app.
Disney’s record claim is platform-defined (“local original” premiere) rather than a public absolute hours or accounts figure. Buyers comparing Korean fantasy launches will still want the missing absolute number when Disney next updates its rankings.
Our reading
For streamer programmers and Korean sales agents, the signal is demand concentration: a webtoon-backed fantasy with a four-lead cast cleared Disney’s own local-original bar in three days and topped Korean premieres across a wide market set. The commercial next step is whether mid-run Wednesday drops hold that ranking through the 25 November finale, and whether Disney publishes a harder viewership number rivals can benchmark.
