Finecut has sold Park Hoon-jung’s assassin noir Tristes Tropiques into several key territories ahead of its 25 November 2026 Korean theatrical release and the American Film Market, Variety and Deadline reported on 3 November. Well Go USA takes North America; Swift Distribution French-speaking territories; Alfa Pictures Spain and Andorra; Blue Swan Entertainment Italy; and CaiChang International Taiwan.

Key facts

  • Korean theatrical release: 25 November 2026; sales agent Finecut at AFM
  • New buyers: Well Go USA (North America); Swift (French-speaking); Alfa Pictures (Spain and Andorra); Blue Swan (Italy); CaiChang (Taiwan)
  • Prior sales: Splendid Film (DACH); Media4Fun (Poland); Multivision India; Prima Cinema (Indonesia); Izagur (Mongolia)
  • Production: Gold Moon Pictures with Studio&New; presented by Mindmark Inc. (Shinsegae Group)
  • Cast leads include Lee Sin-young, Park Yu-rim, Kim Myung-min and Park Hae-soo, with Taiwanese co-stars Austin Lin, Chen Yi-Wen and Wang Po-Chieh

The AFM package

Well Go USA has previously released Park’s The Witch films and The Childe in North America; CEO Doris Pfardrescher’s quote, carried by both trades, frames Tristes Tropiques as continuing that relationship. Swift CEO Didier Costet welcomed the acquisition as a fresh cinematic journey, both trades report. Financial terms were not disclosed. Finecut is also bringing animated feature Long Long Night to AFM, Variety notes.

Festival runway into release

Variety and Deadline say the film took the Silver Raven in Brussels’ international competition and the Grand Prix Nouveau Genre Canal+ at Paris’s L’Étrange Festival in September, and is set to close the London Korean Film Festival. The plot follows young killers trained by Master in a tropical rainforest who turn on one another after Master is found dead.

Park’s recent platform work includes Night in Paradise for Netflix and The Tyrant for Disney+, Variety notes, which helps explain why buyers treat his brand as a known genre export rather than a first look. Buyers at AFM will also weigh the Taiwanese cast contingent as a regional marketing hook for CaiChang. Financial terms remain undisclosed across all named territories, so the story is territory coverage and brand continuity with Well Go rather than a published MG ladder. Finecut’s second AFM title, Long Long Night, gives the sales company a second conversation in the same booth week.

Why it matters

Park’s genre titles remain among Korea’s more exportable mid-budget packages, and a multi-territory Finecut close into North America and major European language markets before the domestic open is the commercial proof buyers still want the brand. Related FilmBunch market coverage includes Imposters’ AFM US and international slate, Tokyo’s Grand Prix for Sister Brother Manhole Cover and Godzilla Minus Zero’s Japan opening. More under Deals.

Our reading

For Korean sales agents, the chart is territory breadth into AFM week rather than a single headline MG. The next evidence is Well Go’s US release plan after the 25 November Korea open, and whether Finecut’s remaining Asian gaps close at the market.
