Spain’s ICAA provisionally awards €31.3m in general feature aid to 31 projects

The second 2026 procedure of the ayudas generales would take animation to 22.4% of the pot and projects by women directors to 41.5%, before a five-day allegations window.

Spain’s Instituto de la Cinematografía y de las Artes Audiovisuales (ICAA) has published the provisional resolution for the second 2026 selection of ayudas generales for feature films on project, proposing €31,264,400 ($35.0m at the Frankfurter/ECB mid-market EUR–USD rate of 1.1179 on 3 November) for 31 titles, the official PDF posted on 4 November shows. Audiovisual451 summarised the same list the same day. The proposal is not yet final: interested parties have five working days from 5 November to file allegations via the ministry’s electronic office.

Key facts

  • Line: ICAA ayudas generales for feature production on project, 2026 call, second selection procedure
  • Provisional pot: €31,264,400 for 31 titles; 26 applications held as substitutes; nine provisionally excluded
  • Shares in this procedure (per the proposal): 22.36% to animation; 41.47% to projects directed exclusively by women
  • Cap: €1m per project, or €1.2m for animation
  • 2026 call total endowment: €62m across two procedures (Audiovisual451); first procedure already granted €30,735,600 to 31 titles

How this differs from selective aid

The ayudas generales are the ICAA’s broader production line for Spanish-nationality feature projects that meet cultural and spend tests, distinct from the competitive selective aid round that awarded €31.5m to 70 projects in late October. Audiovisual451 notes that leftover money from the first general procedure (€264,400) rolled into this second pot. At least half of each budgeted spend must be incurred in Spain or with Spanish-resident talent and suppliers, and beneficiaries must meet accessibility and environmental reporting conditions set out in the call.

The 31 provisional titles

Annex I of the provisional proposal, as reported by Audiovisual451 and checked against the PDF, lists: La cuarta parte (Mod Producciones); Y Sevilla (Hay Caracoles, A.I.E.); Las rubias (Teniente Martínez, A.I.E.); La sed (La Sed La Película, A.I.E.); Extraña (Vaca Films Studio); La mort i la primavera negra (Nit, A.I.E.); Los estorninos (Solomon Solon, A.I.E.); Hades (Operación Hades, A.I.E.); Los enemigos (Los Canallas Duermen En Paz, A.I.E.); El hijo de todos (Lusguti, A.I.E.); Impunidad (Impunidad La Película, A.I.E.); Lea y Mikel (Lea y Mikel, A.I.E.); Jauría (Jauría Film, A.I.E.); Todos nosotros (Todos Nosotros La Película, A.I.E.); Gente sola (Gente Sola, A.I.E.); Rhino (Morena Films); Reforma total (Mecanística, A.I.E.); Redecora tu vida (Dirigiendo, A.I.E.); Anabel (On Cinema 2028, A.I.E.); Capri (Ikiru Films); Comuniones (Ozma Films, A.I.E.); Atascada (Ponte El Cinturón, A.I.E.); Amèrica (America La Película 2026, A.I.E.); Inés y la alegría (Inés y la Alegría, A.I.E.); La Navidad de Aira (Demasiados Enemigos, A.I.E.); Cíclope y Gárgola: Operación Cachorro (Palawan Films, A.I.E.); Tukuy (Huraa Entertainment, A.I.E.); Spark (Doce Entertainment); Flamingo Flamenco (Flamingo Flamenco Film, A.I.E.); La estrella del este (La Estrella del Este Película, A.I.E.); and Fe (Sygnatia).

Most provisional awards in Annex I sit at the €1m ceiling. Animation titles are proposed at up to €1.2m (Cíclope y Gárgola: Operación Cachorro, Tukuy, Flamingo Flamenco and Fe at €1.2m; Spark at €1,191,500; La estrella del este at €1m). A few fiction awards sit below the cap, including Gente sola (€898,000), Rhino (€445,972) and La Navidad de Aira (€928,928, the leftover after the pot). Those amounts stay provisional until the definitive resolution.

Regional split

Audiovisual451’s breakdown by producer base for this procedure: Basque Country producers €8.0m across 10 features; Catalonia €7.816m across nine; Madrid €6.92m across 15; Andalusia €4.0m across six; Canary Islands €2.0m for two; Navarre €1.0m; Valencia region €1.0m across four. Those sums describe producer participation, so co-productions can appear in more than one community’s tally.

What happens next

Allegations run for five non-extendable working days from 5 November through the ministry electronic office. A definitive resolution will follow. Related Spain coverage includes La bola negra’s place on the all-time Spanish-language chart and South Investors Week’s 2027 Cádiz financing market. More under Money & Policy.

Our reading

For Spanish producers, the second general procedure is the cash-flow event that closes the 2026 automatic-style pot after the selective round’s cultural shortlist. The next evidence is which of the 31 titles survive allegations unchanged, and whether the final animation and women-director shares hold near the provisional 22.4% and 41.5%.
